Universal Healthcare Is A Hot Topic

ChristiaNet.com, the world's largest Christian portal with twelve million monthly page loads, recently asked, "Should the USA have Universal Healthcare?" ChristiaNet President, Bill Cooper, stated, "Healthcare coverage is an important part of the American lifestyle."

Out of 1,000 Christians surveyed, 49% believed that the United States of America should have some type of universal healthcare coverage. One supportive poll taker responded, "A society of equals, with equal rights to the best healthcare. The country can afford it." Another supporter of universal coverage stated, "Access to basic health care is a human right, not a luxury only for the wealthy." Many in this category were very insistent on healthcare coverage and the political contributions connected, "If we can spend billions on an un-justified war against people who had absolutely nothing to do with the attacks of September 11th, then our country's lawmakers can give each and every citizen Universal Healthcare! We deserve it."

Forty two percent of poll takers did not feel that the government was responsible to provide healthcare coverage to all for no cost, as one survey taker said, "Americans only need access to lower-cost insurance plans. Small business should get low-cost opportunities to provide health insurance to the owners and their employees!" Another in this category responded, "The poor can already get health insurance, the middle class should have a cheaper options." Others felt that it was God's responsibility to take care of Americans health, "Because as Christians we should depend on God not Government for all our needs."

Nine percent of survey takers were unsure about whether or not they agreed with universal healthcare coverage for all Americans. One reason included, "I am not sure as I don't feel that there will be equality for all or that this would improve the QUALITY of care." Another unsure poller stated, "I am not sure whether we should have universal healthcare. I worry about trying to get into a doctor and having to pay for everyone else who does not have healthcare." Some who were unsure did not have enough information to make a decision, "How would this affect our taxes, I mean...who would be paying for this universal coverage?"
