Christians Unsure About Iraq War and Oil

ChristiaNet.com, the world's largest Christian portal with twelve million monthly page loads, recently asked, "Was the war in Iraq about the oil?" President of ChristiaNet, Bill Cooper, responds, "The people of this nation are torn between the political causes and effects of the war. It is no different in the Christian community."

Out of 1,200 Christians surveyed, 43% did not believe that the war in Iraq was started because of the oil industry. In fact many thought just the opposite, "The war in Iraq was about weapons of mass destruction not oil." Others in disagreement with the reason for war stated, "I am shocked that this is even a question that is still asked. President Bush has never to my knowledge ever mentioned we were there for the oil." Still some, although they did not believe the war was started over oil, insisted it was started because, "George Bush was tricked and doesn't know how to discern the voice of God."

A very close forty-two percent of those surveyed, did feel that the cause of the war had a lot to do with oil, "I think it was... there is no evidence of massive destruction weapons and that was the excuse for invasion in the first place." Another in agreement stated, " money, power, fame, greed, President Bush has oil companies." and, "oil is vital for development, therefore industrial giants would like control of oil supplies or possibly Bush Senior's son trying to out do his dad?"

Only fifteen percent of Christians who took the poll were unsure about the causes of the war, "Yes & No. I think Sadam Hussein needed to be caught but after that the US should have gotten out. It seems that President Bush is about oil as former President Bush. Taxation on gas slowed the economy in the 1990's. Now they have raised the prices to record levels." Another unsure poll taker felt the reason to be, "because the Bible confirmed that at the end time many strange things will be happening. Nations will raise against nations." Still others just felt that with all the media and the fabrications, it would just be, "truly impossible to ever know for sure."
