Believers Overwhelmingly Support Israel
ChristiaNet.com, a large Christian portal with eight million monthly page loads, recently asked, "As a Christian, do you support Israel?" President of ChristiaNet, Bill Cooper, stated, "Nearly 90% of believers polled not only support Israel, but also view the nation as God's chosen people."
Out of 1,800 Christians surveyed, 87% believe that to support Israel is not only scripturally-based but also mandated by God. Many of those polled quoted Genesis 12:3, "And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed." Another responded, "I believe what God said about the blessings or curses of Israel coming upon us. I pray that this nation does not lose sight of that, or we are in big trouble. I love the nation of Israel because they gave us the prophets, the word of God and, most of all, our Messiah. God said pray for the peace of Jerusalem and that is what we need to do; it was not a suggestion but a mandate."
Only seven percent of those surveyed felt strongly that it was wrong to support Israel. Many based their opinion on Israel's aggression against the Palestinians. "First, as a Christian, I should always support right against wrong. Israel was established by force over Palestinian dead bodies; and that is not what Christ stands for. Secondly, and more importantly, I am puzzled at "Christians" who believe that the Jews continue to be God's chosen people, when they plainly reject Christ altogether." Another respondent said, "I know of some of the atrocities the Israelis have committed against Palestinians. No, I don't support Israel!"
A mere six percent of polled believers were unsure. One believer stated, "I do not support the modern day politics of the Israeli government. I do not support war; but I support the Word of God that says Jesus, the Son of God, will be returning there very, very shortly to set up a thousand-year Kingdom of righteousness. Without Israel, salvation would not be available to us today."
