The Bible Is The Infallible Word Of God

ChristiaNet.com, a large Christian portal with eight million monthly page loads, recently asked, "Are there contradictions in the Bible?" President of ChristaNet, Bill Cooper, stated, "Our poll showed that most believers view the Bible as the infallible, inspired Word of God, which can be accurately interpreted."

Out of 1,000 Christians surveyed, 71% disagreed that there are inconsistencies in the Bible. One respondent remarked, "Since God cannot contradict Himself, a contradiction in the Bible would mean that the Bible is not God's Word. Then it is not worthy of our trust and is simply a regular book." Another poller stated, "No contradictions, just misunderstood readings, a lack of knowledge of Hebrew language idioms, and misapplication of modern Western thought and tradition with textual studies." Others cited the necessity to interpret scripture with a spiritual mind. I Corinthians 2:14 says, But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

Eighteen percent of pollers who voted yes voiced their opinion that some scriptures don't seem to add up. One asserted, "I wonder why it says God is love, but He created hell for people and rebellious angels to live in forever. That seems like the ultimate hate crime to me." Another believer remarked, "David is looked upon as a man after Gods heart, but he killed a soldier and slept with his wife. Also, Jacob lived a crooked life, but God still blessed him instead of his brother, Esau, who tried to live an upright life!" One poller said, "The Bible was written by men in the context of the times they lived in . . . contradictions arise because of time and cultural differences."

Eleven percent of Christians polled were unsure about whether the Word of God contradicts itself. A poller stated, "Research shows that there are contradictions, but the Holy Spirit seems to say that there are not." Another believer summed up the topic of Biblical inerrancy by stating, "If there are contradictions, its manmade. Anyway, there is enough truth in the Bible for any life."

To help educate Christians on the topic of Biblical inerrancy, ChristiaNet has just released a free Bible History Quiz. Using the latest interactive technology, one can test their Biblical knowledge on issues facing the Christian community.
