Christians Believe In The Existence Of Hell
ChristiaNet.com, a large Christian portal with eight million monthly page loads, recently asked, "Is there really a Hell?" ChristiaNet's President, Bill Cooper responded, "God's Word makes it clear that there is a place after death where people are separated from Him for eternity."
Out of 1,300 survey takers, a whopping 95% believed that there was, indeed a Hell. The most common reason quoted was, "Because the Bible said so." There were numerous references to Bible passages in the Old Testament. For those that felt the Old Testament was under the old law, reference was made to the New Testament words of Jesus. "Jesus taught about it in Luke 16:19-31," was one pollers response. Others felt that if they were required to believe in a Heaven, then there must be a Hell. Another poller agreed with that sentiment by responding, "For every good, there must be an evil."
Three percent of those that took the survey were unsure whether or not there was a Hell. Many just didn't know, "I don't really know if there is or isn't, I'm not dead yet." Some had problems defining the word 'Hell', "Depends on what you mean by Hell." Others thought that there may be a punishment, but not the actual burning of a Hell. This was characterized in the comment, "I don't know whether or not there is an actual place of Hell, or if the soul is just tormented without God."
Two percent of those polled did not believe in a Hell. This opinion was characterized with statements like, "God can't be the essence of Love and allow this to happen." Their premise was that if God loved like he claims to, then he couldn't possibly send people to Hell. Many others believed that Hell is on earth. "To me, we are in Hell right now," commented one survey taker. A small portion of the remaining pollers in this category felt that people would be judged after they died, not while they were alive. "There will be a lake of fire, after the great throne judgment."
